Cape Barren Girl of Colour

This document examines the known circumstances of an unnamed female child of colour, about five years of age, whose admission to the Orphan School was sought by Francis Cox on 9 September 1826. The surviving application identifies neither parent nor guardian, but it does record that the child had been brought from Cape Barren. The purpose of this document is to set out the evidence, preserve the key documents verbatim, and explain the colonial, maritime, and institutional context in which the application arose.
